Proud To Be A Cygnet Nurse – Two More Stories

Proud to be a Cygnet Nurse celebrates the inspiring nurses working across Cygnet Group, shining a light on their unique career journeys, passion for nursing and the difference they make every day. Launched by Group Director of Nursing & Quality Shane Mills, the year-long campaign invites nurses from every role and specialism to share their stories, recognising that exceptional nursing is at the heart of delivering outstanding care.

Two more stories

We are delighted to share two more #ProudNurse stories from our nursing heroes; Holly and Jo-Ann.

Holly

After her aunt’s cancer symptoms were missed until a late diagnosis, Holly made it her mission to ensure people with learning disabilities aren’t overlooked. Holly now co-leads work to create accessible cancer awareness tools that help all our service users understand their bodies, spot changes, and speak up sooner.

Holly shares how her aunt’s late breast cancer diagnosis inspired her commitment to improving cancer awareness for people with learning disabilities. Through Cygnet’s Cancer Awareness and Prevention Campaign, she has helped develop accessible resources that encourage early detection, empower service users to speak up about symptoms, and tackle health inequalities through education, compassion and timely care.

...that’s what nursing is all about – those moments where something small leads to something life-changing...

Jo-Ann

On 29th June 2026 Jo-Ann McAuliffe, Cygnet’s Deputy Director of Nursing, marked 20 years with the organisation. In this blog she reflects on her journey, what brought her to Cygnet, her motivation along the way, and why she is Proud to be a Cygnet Nurse.
