Proud To Be A Cygnet Nurse – What’s The Story?
Proud to be a Cygnet Nurse celebrates and shines a light on the inspirational nurses working across Cygnet Group. Our campaign champions nurses at every level and in every specialism, highlighting the incredible individuals behind the job title and the diverse journeys that brought them into the profession. Whether newly qualified or decades into their career, every nurse who wants to share their story is invited to do so — because every story matters.
Our campaign was soft‑launched initially back in January by Shane Mills, Cygnet’s Group Director of Nursing & Quality. In his January blog, Shane reflected on his first 6 months in post, his visits to many of Cygnet’s Services across the country, and, his commitment to being a partner in care — ensuring safety, quality and compassionate nursing practice remain central to everything we do here at Cygnet.
Shane also introduced the #ProudToBeACygnetNurse initiative, designed to celebrate our nurses’ origins, inspirations, support networks, development journeys and the “why” behind their work. As Shane affirms, “if we have the best nurses, we have the best care” a belief that sits at the very heart of this campaign.
And so, our year‑long Proud to Be a Cygnet Nurse initiative was born: an open invitation for all our nursing colleagues to share their stories and celebrate the diversity, growth and passion within our nursing community.
Best of Three – Seun, Ola & Cara
We’ve received some fantastic #ProudNurse stories from our nursing heroes.
Our first, from Seun Adeniyi, a Mental Health Nurse at Cygnet Pindar House in Barnsley.

Read Seun’s Story
“I am proud to be a Cygnet nurse because I am part of a community that values expertise, celebrates continuous learning, and, above all, treats every patient and colleague with the humanity they deserve.”

Read Ola’s Story
Olajumoke Adegoke, Hospital Manager at Cygnet Hospital Ealing, shared her story during March’s Eating Disorders Awareness Week — reflecting on how her team continues to innovate in personalised care.
“… Being a nurse is central to the care I deliver. The opportunities I have been given to develop a fantastic team at this very special service make me proud to be a Cygnet nurse.”

Read Cara’s Story
Cara Burke, a Nursing Apprentice completing her Registered Nurse Degree in Adult Nursing with Cygnet, shared her journey as part of both National Careers Week and National Apprenticeship Week — explaining how she found her path into nursing at Cygnet’s Tabley House Nursing Home and why she’s so proud to be a Cygnet Nurse.
“Without nurses, our Services simply would not function.”
That belief sits at the heart of Proud to Be a Cygnet Nurse. The campaign exists to celebrate the commitment, care and professionalism of every nurse who makes Cygnet what it is.
Earlier this May, on International Nurses Day, we shared a special video featuring both Shane and Jo‑Ann McAuliffe, our Deputy Director of Nursing. Both leaders spoke passionately about belonging to a wider profession, learning from one another, and the exciting development opportunities being created for nurses at Cygnet.
“I want every nurse in this organisation to be able to say – just as I say – that they are proud to be a Cygnet nurse.”
— Shane Mills, Cygnet’s Group Director of Nursing & Quality
And to every nurse reading this —if you’re considering your next step — we invite you to explore the opportunities within our nursing community.
