East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) provides a comprehensive range of surgical, emergency, mental health, ambulatory and community health services to over 725,500 people in Perth’s eastern metropolitan region, delivering our vision of healthy people, amazing care (koorda moort, moorditj kwabadak).

Allied Health and Health Science

  • Allied health and health science staff work together with other healthcare professionals to support a person’s medical care.
  • Areas include: audiology, biomedical engineering, clinical perfusion, dietetics, exercise physiology, medical imaging technology, medical librarianship, medical science, medical physics, neurophysiology technology, nuclear medicine technology, occupational therapy, orthoptics, orthotics and prosthetics, pharmacy, psychology, physiotherapy, podiatry, radiation therapy, respiratory science, sleep technology, social work, sonographer and speech pathology.

Clinical Academics

  • Clinical academics are employees of the University of Western Australia who are concurrently employed with EMHS, contributing to research, training of high-quality doctors and the provision of clinical service.
  • Areas include: cardiology, clinical immunology, endoscopy, general medicine, geriatrics, paediatrics, psychiatry and respiratory.

Hospital Support Worker

  • Cleaner, cook, courier, food service attendant, gardener, linen, mailroom, orderly, laboratory attendant, patient care assistant, shop assistant, store person, shop assistant, sterilisation technician and transport.

Medical Practitioners / Doctors

  • Doctors are involved in a wide range of direct patient care activities, including consultations, attending emergencies, performing operations and arranging medical investigations.
  • Intern, resident, registrar, consultant, surgeon, pathologist.

Nursing and Midwifery

  • Clinical nurse, enrolled nurse, midwife, nurse assistant, nurse educator, registered nurse, nurse educator, nurse practitioner.

Applying for an Advertised Vacancy

We typically receive many applications for a position. Therefore, it is important that you take the time to read and understand the position’s requirements and prepare an application that will assist the selection panel to accurately assess and compare your suitability for the position to other applicants.

The following tips are provided to assist you in preparing your application.

✔ Read the advertisement, the application instructions, and the Job Description Form (JDF) before writing your application.

✔ Consider the work related requirements (selection criteria) in the JDF. To be considered for assessment or appointment you must demonstrate you meet all the essential selection criteria and the appointment prerequisites.

✔ Tailor your application to the advertised job and EMHS’s vision, service delivery principles and values.

✔ Talk to the contact person named in the advertisement to clarify any elements of the job description or conditions that you are uncertain about before applying. Make sure you have read the JDF first.

✔ Include in your resume or curriculum vitae (CV):

  • Your relevant work history, qualifications, and education.
  • Brief description of your work experience, including the work situation, key responsibilities, tasks, results and achievements.
  • The name and contact details of at least 2 referees, ideally one who is a current or recent supervisor and can answer questions about your skills and abilities.

✔ Follow the application instructions.

  • If you are required to provide a separate statement addressing the work related requirements (selection criteria), your statement should demonstrate (preferably with examples) your competitive ability to meet the work related requirements.
  • If you are not required to provide a separate statement addressing the work related requirements (selection criteria), you can still opt to provide a separate statement along with your cover letter and resume or CV.

✔ Proof read your application and/or have someone proof read it for you.

  • Conduct a ‘Spelling and Grammar’ check.
  • Check your name is on the application.

✔ Ideally type your application. If you are submitting a handwritten application make sure it is legible and in a dark blue / black ink to help with photocopying.

✔ Allow sufficient time to complete the application process online, as we cannot accept late applications. If you are mailing your application allow enough time for it to be received by the closing date.

✔ Make sure you upload the correct supporting documentation prior to the closing date and time. Only include attachments that add value to demonstrating your ability to meet the criteria.
