<h2>Role Purpose</h2>

As a Senior Substance Misuse Nurse, you will deliver specialist nursing care to individuals with substance-use disorders within the criminal justice pathway. You will play a key role in assessment, risk management, treatment planning, harm reduction, and supporting service users through their recovery journey.


<h2>What You Will Do</h2>

Complete holistic assessments addressing physical, psychological, and social needs for service users with substance dependencies.

Develop and review personalised, evidence-based care plans in partnership with service users and carers.

Undertake risk assessments, mental health screening, and detoxification reviews.

Deliver specialist interventions, including opioid substitution therapy assessments, detox planning, and structured harm reduction support.
</li>

Provide BBV testing, vaccinations, overdose prevention advice, and safer injecting education.
</li>

Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, working closely with partner agencies across health, social care, and criminal justice.

 What you will do:<ul>
<li>Manage a clinical caseload of individuals with substance misuse issues, providing holistic, person-centred care and support.</li><li>Conduct comprehensive assessments, including risk assessments, and develop, implement, and review care plans tailored to individual needs.</li><li>Plan and deliver community-based detoxification programmes, including alcohol and opiate detox, supporting safe medication management such as opiate substitute treatment.</li><li>Promote harm reduction strategies, including naloxone distribution and Blood Borne Virus (BBV) screening and vaccinations.</li><li>Work collaboratively with mental health, physical health, social care services, and third-sector partners to ensure integrated care pathways.</li><li>Provide clinical leadership and supervision within the team, supporting colleagues and acting up for the Team Leader during short-term absences.</li><li>Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records in line with professional standards and organisational policies.</li><li>Facilitate and co-facilitate group sessions aimed at recovery and health promotion.</li><li>Communicate effectively and empathetically with service users, families, carers, and professionals, maintaining a non-judgmental approach.</li><li>Contribute to service development, monitoring, and evaluation to improve care delivery and outcomes.</li></ul>
 Qualifications and Registration: - Registered Nurse (RGN or RMN) with current NMC registration. - Degree or diploma in substance misuse or equivalent qualification desirable. - Evidence of KSF/DANOS competencies relevant to the role. Experience:- Substantial experience working in substance misuse or mental health nursing, preferably in community settings. - Experience managing complex caseloads involving co-occurring mental and physical health conditions. - Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. - Experience in clinical leadership or supervisory roles is advantageous.
