What you will do:

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of patients with complex and sometimes undiagnosed conditions, developing and evaluating evidence-based care plans.
  • Deliver autonomous clinical care, recognising deterioration and escalating concerns appropriately within a secure setting.
  • Lead and contribute to nurse-led clinics (e.g., long-term conditions, substance misuse, minor illness) and coordinate ongoing care pathways.
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision and mentorship to Band 5 nurses and support staff, acting as a role model for professional practice.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team colleagues, prison officers and external agencies to deliver holistic, integrated care.

Qualifications:

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) or equivalent nursing qualification.
  • Evidence of post-registration professional development (such as mentorship, specialist courses).

Registration & Compliance:

  • Current NMC registration.
  • Knowledge of NMC Code, clinical governance frameworks and safeguarding requirements.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation including Mental Capacity Act and Equality Act 2010.

Experience:

  • Significant post-registration experience within primary care, acute, community, or custodial healthcare.
  • Experience working with complex patient groups, including mental health and substance misuse.
  • Demonstrable experience of supervising or mentoring junior staff.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working in a regulated healthcare environment.
