We are pleased to offer an exciting locum opportunity for a Prison Cleared Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join a multidisciplinary team within a secure prison environment on the Isle of Wight. Role Purpose

As part of the mental health team, you will deliver high-quality, person-centred care to individuals within a secure prison environment. Your role is vital in promoting mental wellbeing, supporting rehabilitation, and contributing to a safe, therapeutic, and structured custodial setting.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments on reception and throughout custody, identifying risks and forming tailored care plans.

  • Deliver a wide range of evidence-based interventions, including medication administration, therapeutic support, and psychoeducation.

  • Play a key role in risk management and safeguarding, ensuring safety through adherence to prison security protocols.

  • Work collaboratively with prison officers, GPs, psychologists, substance misuse services, and external agencies to deliver integrated care.

  • Oversee and contribute to safe medication management and prescribing processes.

  • Respond to mental health emergencies, providing crisis interventions and de-escalation where required.

  • Maintain accurate documentation in line with professional, legal, and institutional standards.

Salary range

  • £38 per hour
