Job Summary
We are an established, small, independent private hospital specialising in personalised care in the field of facial plastic surgery. We are seeking a Nursing Associate to join our team.
The post holder will be a core member of the clinical team and will be instrumental in maintaining the high standards of our independent hospital, ensuring clinical excellence and patient safety across the peri-operative pathway.
Duties
Pre assessment:
- Sending out preoperative information and completing follow ups.
- Contributing to the assessment, implementation and evaluation of the patient's care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Supporting or undertaking protocol-driven preoperative assessments and escalating findings to the Nursing Manager.
- Administering preoperative medications in accordance with training, competency and hospital policy.
- Participate in the on-call rota, acting as the first point of contact for post-operative patient enquiries, providing advice within agreed protocols and escalating clinical concerns to the Nursing Manager or surgeon as appropriate.
Clinical:
- Demonstrate clinical flexibility by working across all peri-operative areas, including theatres, pre-assessment, and recovery.
- Circulate during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety, maintaining a controlled environment, checking equipment functionality, and accurately documenting care.
- Monitor patient recovery, escalating concerns and supporting management of post-anaesthesia or surgical complications..
- Provide high-quality inpatient care focused on patient comfort, safety, and dignity.
- Perform routine clinical duties such as wound monitoring, dressing changes, drain management, and suture removal, while ensuring all equipment is checked and maintained.
- Uphold patient privacy and dignity at all times, escalating any concerns or difficulties to the Nursing Manager team.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for all patients, including those requiring enhanced monitoring.
- Support continuous monitoring of patient care and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Report and document incidents in real time using the hospital’s reporting system, escalating concerns to senior staff as appropriate.
- Prioritise patient care, recognise deterioration promptly, and alert senior staff immediately.
- Maintain accurate, legible clinical records and complete all preoperative documentation as required.
- Safely administer medications in accordance with prescriptions, NMC standards, and hospital policy, maintaining precise medication records.
- Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, adapting for language, comprehension, and cognitive barriers.
- Promote high standards of patient care and professional conduct through example and adherence to policy.
- Foster positive relationships with patients, colleagues, and visitors, contributing to a supportive and collaborative team environment.
- Participate in patient and family education, providing clear explanations of treatment and care plans.
Qualifications
- Current and valid Nursing Associate registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is mandatory.
- Pre-assessment experience is desirable but not essential.
- Experience supporting post-anaesthetic recovery care is desirable but not essential.
- Experience in direct patient care in Plastic Surgery is desirable but not essential.
- Possesses a proven good work ethic: reliable, flexible, pro-active, and dedicated to delivering the highest quality of care within a close-knit team.
- Excellent communication skills, crucial for effective collaboration within the team and rapport-building with patients.
Working Hours, Leave, and Benefits
- 35 hours over 4 days per week.
- Usual working week Mon-Fri.
