If you're a nurse looking to regain work-life balance without walking away from your profession, this role could be exactly what you've been searching for.

Are you an experienced, motivated nurse looking for a new direction?

If you're proud of your clinical skills but ready for a change of pace - one that values autonomy, professional judgement, and structured working - becoming a Functional Assessor could be the ideal next step.

This role suits nurses who want to:

  • Use their clinical knowledge in a new, objective way
  • Achieve predictable hours and improved balance
  • Develop professionally through structured training
  • Work in a supportive, clinically led environment

What You Can Expect

  • Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm - no nights, weekends, or bank holidays
  • Hybrid working (typically 3 days on-site, with flexibility to do more if preferred)
  • Skills‑based pay progression
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays (option to buy more)
  • Paid CPD and reimbursed NMC registration fees
  • Structured programme leading to formal DWP accreditation
  • Clear clinical and leadership career routes within Ingeus and the wider APM Group
  • A supportive, high‑performance culture

Is This Role Right for You?

Being a Functional Assessor is rewarding, but it is also structured and detail‑focused. It's a great fit for nurses who:

  • Are open to a formal training pathway leading to DWP assessor accreditation
  • Welcome constructive feedback to support continuous improvement
  • Are confident using IT systems and learning new software
  • Enjoy roles with structure, consistency, and clear standards
  • Take pride in producing high‑quality, clinically reasoned reports

This role may not be the best match if you:

  • Prefer hands‑on clinical care
  • Do not enjoy detailed written reporting
  • Do not feel comfortable with IT
  • Are not looking for a new direction or period of retraining
  • Prefer roles without targets
  • Require a fully remote position

What You'll Do Each Day

  • Complete a range of person‑centred assessments (face‑to‑face, video, or telephone)
  • Use clinical questioning, active listening, and critical reasoning to explore functional impact
  • Produce structured, high‑quality clinical reports for DWP decision makers
  • Review, request, and analyse additional evidence where appropriate
  • Work closely with a team of experienced clinical colleagues to deliver fair, consistent assessments

Who We're Looking For

  • NMC‑registered Nurses: RGN, RMN, RNLD
  • 12+ months UK post‑registration experience
  • Strong communication, clinical reasoning, and IT confidence

If you're a nurse ready to regain balance, build new skills, and take your career in a rewarding new direction - this is your moment.

Ingeus is a Disability Confident Employer.
We welcome neurodiverse applicants and offer a clear, supportive, step‑by‑step recruitment journey. If you need adjustments or alternative formats, our team is here to support you.
