The HIV Service is seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 5 Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team, providing high-quality, patient-centred care to people living with HIV across outpatient, community and outreach settings.
Working alongside Specialist Nurses, Medical Staff, Sexual Health colleagues and external partners, you will deliver clinical assessments, treatment support, health promotion and ongoing monitoring, helping patients to manage their condition and achieve the best possible health outcomes. The role includes vaccination and immunisation programmes, phlebotomy, blood monitoring clinics, administration of long-acting injectable HIV therapies, and responding to urgent clinical queries.
The post holder will also support home visits, community clinics and outreach activities, working with vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations to improve access to care and reduce health inequalities.

Key responsibilities include undertaking clinical assessments, monitoring patients receiving HIV treatment, supporting medication adherence, promoting self-management and health education, and contributing to the delivery of evidence-based care. The post holder will play an active role in vaccination and immunisation programmes, phlebotomy and blood monitoring clinics, and the administration of long-acting injectable HIV therapies.
The role also includes responding to urgent clinical queries, maintaining accurate clinical records, participating in safeguarding processes, and supporting national HIV monitoring and retention-in-care standards.
A significant aspect of the role involves delivering care within community and outreach settings, including home visits, nurse-led community clinics and engagement activities aimed at improving access to services for vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations. The post holder will contribute to reducing health inequalities by supporting patients who may face barriers to healthcare access and engagement.
The Band 5 HIV Nurse will also participate in service development, quality improvement initiatives, audit activities and ongoing professional development to enhance specialist knowledge and skills in HIV, Sexual Health and Community Nursing. The role requires flexibility, excellent communication skills and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively across a range of clinical and community environments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Band 5 HIV Nurse provides safe, person-centred care to people living with HIV across outpatient, community and outreach settings. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will undertake clinical assessments, support treatment adherence, promote self-management and wellbeing, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality HIV care.
The role includes managing urgent clinical queries, maintaining accurate clinical records, contributing to safeguarding processes, and supporting the delivery of national HIV care standards. The post holder will oversee vaccination and injectable treatment clinics, undertake phlebotomy and support the management of blood monitoring clinics.
The successful candidate will also participate in home visits, community and outreach clinics, working with healthcare professionals and community partners to improve patient engagement, continuity of care and access to services for vulnerable populations.
The post holder will contribute to audit, quality improvement and service development initiatives and participate in ongoing professional development to build specialist knowledge and skills in HIV, Sexual Health and Community Nursing.
