Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse or clinical nurse specialist with knowledge of managing Upper Gastro-Intestinal (UGI) Cancer patients, who is prepared to take the lead on maintaining and developing our UGI cancer nursing team within Buckinghamshire NHS Trust.
The role includes line management of at least one other team member at Band 6 level and includes service development of this vital nursing service. It also requires close working with all members of the UGI MDT, colleagues in the acute setting and also those in the community in supporting the needs of this complex patient group.
The post is based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital but can involve cover on other hospital sites including Wycombe and Amersham.

Provide clinical leadership for the Upper GI Cancer Nursing Service, supporting patients diagnosed with Upper GI malignancies, including oesophageal, gastric, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and cancers of unknown primary. Act as the key worker and primary point of contact, ensuring delivery of holistic, patient-centred care throughout the cancer pathway.
Coordinate care across acute, community and specialist services, facilitating timely referrals to multidisciplinary teams including palliative care, dietetics and allied health professionals. Work collaboratively with ward teams, Acute Oncology, Endoscopy and external cancer centres to ensure seamless, high-quality care.
Provide specialist support to patients at diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, completing holistic needs assessments and signposting to appropriate services. Act as a key liaison between Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to support continuity of care.
Lead service development initiatives, including the implementation of personalised stratified follow-up pathways in line with the NHS Long Term Plan for Cancer, improving patient experience, outcomes and service delivery.
