A Podcast For Nurses: Cup of Care, Episode 4

"I was speaking to a colleague who had a beard but I walked past him totally unresponsive to him because he didn't have his mask on, and he had a beard."

Nikki & Janet muse on emotional intelligence and compassion. Janet gives and update on her nursing studies, and highlights the benefits of stepping out of your comfort zone.

Covid Brain Fog

“But it was the brain fog that got me. And it's still getting me a little bit. Now I think it is getting better, but I just feel like a... Like when your computer buffers, you know, when you're watching a video and it suddenly stops, or like when you're on Teams.”?

Masks Here To Stay?

“I don't think that we will ever take them off now. I think they will just become part of the standard of hygiene that we expect. Just as we expect that hand washing is every 20 minutes or whatever. And as much as I don't like the masks, really, I can see why we wear them.”

Becoming Less Of An Observer

“I feel like this is where my training's starting to go now. I'm becoming less of an observer as I was in first year, where really you're just watching every single move every person makes. I'm moving away from that now into thinking and actually finding my way into a more proactive relationship as a student still.”

Getting Out Of Your Comfort Zone

“It's when you're pushed into new realms of thinking, that's when you start to really extend your skills and your knowledge and your confidence. And that's where I feel I am. I do feel like I'm not in my comfort zone anymore, but actually it's a good thing, it's where I need to be.”
