A Podcast For Nurses: Cup of Care, Episode 1

An open and frank podcast on Nursing - #CupofCare

In the first episode of a monthly series, our in-house Nurse, Nikki talks with Mature Student Nurse, Janet on all things Nursing, and Janet gives an insight into her University experience.

5:07: Firsthand Experience

Even though you've been a nurse all those years, to now be in the position pf being the family member, you can't understand really what it's like from somebody else's position till you're in it. Empathy is a great thing. But fitshand experience of seeing through those eyes really does give you a different perspetive on things.

9:08: Making A Connection With People

The bedside part is so important, It's very rare to get that connection with people. I do think that is one of the most beautiful points of being a nurse. Yeah. 'Cause it's not all kind of clinical and medication. It is actually making that connection with people.

16:28: Staffing Issues

First of all, they're always grateful to see us. Regardless of whatever else. Because some of the wards are just so short staffed and the staff are so tired that they need new legs.

19:14: Many Staff Are Isolating

I'm not saying that this happens all the time, but just because of the situation that we're in now, with people having to isolate and all that stuff, it really was a little bit of a strategic thing about who's here. If we haven't got the numbers, where are we going to draft them in form?

29:22: Wellbeing Is A Hot Topic

Messages around wellbeing, they're a hot topic out there. Mental wellbeing, physical wellbeing, There's a lot more out there than there used to be. There's more of a recognition that nurses aren't robots. That they're people and that things affect us.
