A Podcast For Nurses: Cup of Care, Episode 5

An open and frank podcast on Nursing - #CupofCare

In this episode, Janet, a Student Nurse talks about how she finally decided to study Nursing and her life journey that led her to it.

As a 2nd Year Student Nurse

I'm told year two is the hardest of the three years and I can believe it, but I've survived so far.

Nursing is Evidence Based

one of the key themes that they're teaching us on my degree is that if you're gonna be a good nurse, you need to know your evidence base.

Controlling Self-Doubt

when you feel like an imposter in your own life, and I suppose it's kind of healthy in a way but the healthy part is being able to say, yes, I know you're there.

Creative Approaches for Learners

if you're not a visual learner, then it doesn't come naturally to present all your work in essays. So they're allowing people to tap into their own creativity in other way.

Career Development

I'd like to kind of tap into your unusual backgrounds which I think is amazing that brings you to where you are today and the person, wonderful person that you are and the reason I mention that is obviously because within that, there's a little bit of career development.

When The Time Is Right

I knew that I wanted to be a nurse when I was around about 16, 18, but I also knew that I wasn't ready two years ago, when we dealt with COVID and finally I decided enough is enough, I'm not running away from this anymore.

The Value Of Life Experience

And every single facet of what you've done just adds such great quality of compassion and care with other people and that ability to be able to communicate at any level.

Student Retention

We all have our personal tutors and we have links attached to the placements that are there with us all year. They're on hand whenever we need them, equally, the staff in the hospital, we've got assessors and supervisors there too.

The Rewards of Knowledge

And when you start to actually break down what you're capable of doing in the day now, I love that feeling of when something isn't a mystery to me anymore.

Life Long Learning

That's a really great thing about nursing. There will be another nursing role out there because that's the nature of the job is that there are hundreds of different types of nurses in hundreds of different settings. Keeping Your Focus

It's always that question of why do you want to do this? And at this point in time, it's easy to lose track of why you want to do it.
