Who we are

Scarlet House is a modern, purpose-built care home situated in the heart of the attractive town of Edbley in Stroud and is surrounded by peaceful countryside and pleasant gardens. The home provides nursing, residential and respite care for older people, including expert care for individuals with physical disabilities. We also offer supportive and sensitive end of life care.

Scarlet House is part of the Care UK family of private care homes which offers expert care to elderly people. It is an 86 bed home with nursing, residential and dementia units. We offer residential, nursing, respite, dementia care and End of life care. We are known as a ‘home for life’, when a resident’s needs change, we are here to support them throughout with a tailored care plan. All our care is person-centred, meaning the resident is at the centre of all aspects of their care.

The team is experienced with a variety of complex conditions including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and motor neurone disease and works alongside GPS and specialists to provide the best care. We often work alongside healthcare services such as chiropody, community support, dental, movement therapy, namaste care, opticians, pharmacy, physiotherapy and speech and language therapy.

Our CQC ‘Good’ rated care home provides luxury facilities including a modern café, cinema and pub for the residents to enjoy.

Who works here?

There is a variety of different positions available within Scarlet House; who all work together to provide the best care for our residents:

Our Nurses provide outstanding leadership for the care staff and support our residents with a range of complex needs and dependency levels. They provide clinical nursing services including wound care, medication management, infection control and develop individual care plans for all residents ensuring all needs are met.

Our Care Assistants support our residents with personal care and mealtimes and ensure they remain as active and independent as possible. They support residents in exploring new interests and identify residents’ unique goals.

The Clinical Lead oversees the nursing team and is responsible for delivering the individual care plans. They deputise for the management team and work with local GPs and other healthcare professionals to maintain the best quality of care for residents.

The Deputy Manager provides leadership for the nursing and care teams and supports the development and delivery of consistently high quality clinical and care services for those with complex health and social care needs. They supervise the team on a day to day basis and through formal supervision.

The Home Manager manages the home and services; they are confident in knowledge of CQC regulations and demonstrates a clear vision of the future of the home; always delivering excellent services and leading and inspiring the team.

We offer different contracts to fit individual needs; whether you are looking for a full time position or want to pick up additional shifts on the Bank.

In addition to these roles we have key positions in the home covering everything from Domestic, Catering Assistants and Chefs, administration, maintenance and Lifestyle Coordinator’s who in their own right enable the home to run as smoothly as possible.

Career development opportunities

Whether you are starting as a Domestic, Care Assistant or Home Manager, at Care UK we support you in your career progression. We have a dedicated learning and development team as well as an abundance of E-learning to support you through your career.

During your induction period you will have access to various online learning support as well as 121 “Buddy” mentorships within the home and regular catch ups with your Home Manager. If starting as a nurse, we offer clinical skills and nursing leadership workshops to grow your confidence as well as access to resources such as and mycare. For overseas nurses in the UK we have a ‘Pin Project’ to support you through your exams to receive your UK NMC PIN.

Once you are settled into your Nursing role we have a variety of learning and training opportunities to enhance your career including RCN accredited nurse practice supervisor, becoming a preceptor, coaching for care and nursing colleagues and opportunities to reflect on practice and take part in clinical supervisions.

There are opportunities to become the lead in your area of expertise including Dementia, Mental Health, Autism, Diabetes, Parkinsons as well as more practical areas including falls and infection prevention and control.

For further progression in your career we have both a ‘Future Deputy Manager’ and ‘Future Home Manager’ programme to support you on your Care UK journey in which you will have access to leadership workshops and core skills modules. In addition to this we have a “chef academy” and Team Leader programme to assist you in progressing in your career, regardless of your role.

Practical information

Scarlet House is in the heart of Stroud with Stroudwater canal just on our doorstep. You can enjoy riverside walks and being moments away from shops and amenities.

The home offers onsite parking facilities which include disabled parking and there is plenty of roadside parking around the home if needed. There are also plenty of bus stops along Westward Road which take you into the heart of Gloucester & Cheltenham town centres.

Stroud is brimming with independent shops, cafés and galleries and is home to one of the best Farmers’ Markets in the country, there are plenty of things to do in Stroud.

Stroud has many schools in the local area and has a large college which has an array of topics to study and is only 45 mins drive to Bristol, 30 mins to Cheltenham & 25 mins to Gloucester.
