Junior Sister

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in South East London is a large teaching hospital and is at the forefront of academic and nursing excellence. We are looking to recruit a full time permanent Band 6 Junior Sister for the Neurosurgical Unit and a 11months fixed term for the General Surgical Unit within the Children Surgical Ward, Variety Children’s Hospital at Kings

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a diverse team on a 21 bedded Surgical Ward with specialist interest in General Surgery and Neurosurgery. The Unit comprises 10 Neurosurgical beds and 11 General Surgery beds. We treat a wide range of Neurosurgical associated illnesses and are the national and regional Centre for the care of children with neurosurgical conditions and national referral system for Epilepsy surgery and have 2 Neuro rehabilitation. The 10 neurosurgical beds comprises of patients with hydrocephalus, brain and spinal tumours and post traumatic injuries.

The ward has strong relationships with the clinical nurse specialist and in house PDN support. The nursing team is skilled to deliver exceptional standard of care to highly dependent children and their families. No previous experience is required as we offer in house training and support. We receive elective/planned admissions and acute patients directly from the emergency department. We have established links with both the Children’s Community Nursing Teams as well as a unique “Paediatric Hospital @ Home” service offering ongoing care and treatment in the Child’s home.

As a junior sister you will work closely with ward manager and the multidisciplinary team in developing this specialty through innovative and forward thinking ways. This exciting opportunity requires a confident, dynamic children’s nurse to support the ward manager to lead and manage the nursing team. As a junior, sister you will be able to influence further developments and improvements within this service in conjunction with the current senior team.

You must be a registered children’s nurse with extensive clinical experience within a comparable Paediatric setting and must hold a mentorship qualification or equivalent. You will have excellent communication and leadership skills and be able to work independently and also as part of a team.
