Staff Nurses are an active and very important members of the ward team who will deliver effective care and treatment to service users whilst playing an integral role within the multi-disciplinary team. You will act as Primary/Associate Nurse to a number of service users within a medium or low secure environment. Staff nurses will assist in the smooth co-ordination and running of the ward.
Staff Nurses will receive a thorough induction and training package including full preceptorship programme, regular Managerial and Clinical supervision, Resilience training sessions coordinated by Advanced Practitioners and regular See Think Act Table top exercises to help you develop your skills and knowledge.
For newly qualified Band 5 nurses, we provide additional and bespoke support during the preceptorship period to ensure that individual needs and objectives are achieved. Our Practice Development Nurse will work alongside you to enable development of the skills, knowledge and competencies that you need to successfully complete your preceptorship, and to feel confident and assured in your role as Nurse in Charge and Primary Nurse on a ward.
From January 2017, we are excited to be providing a 6 week introductory course for all of our new B5 nurses and successful applicants can choose from Psycho Social Interventions (PSI) or Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT). These sessions aim to provide an awareness of these interventions and their use within secure services. The sessions will be run in-house and we will be involving service user experts in their delivery Key Requirements of the Post Holder:
Up-to-date NMC registration as a first level mental health nurse. Have recent experience of working proactively within a multi-disciplinary team. Have recent experience of working within and supporting staff to deliver care to patients who are complex and have challenging needs in order to demonstrate the required understanding of risk management. Have recent experience of working proactively within a multi-disciplinary team. Be assessed by Occupational Health as having a level of physical fitness required to undertake the role and required essential training. Ward/Department Summary:
The Low Secure and Step Down Services offer the following clinical services
- Two Male low secure wards within The Lowry Unit
- A Step Down Service for men within the Hospital Grounds
- A Step Down Service for Women within Prestwich Village
- An enhanced service for Women within the vicinity of Eccles
