? To safely administer chemotherapy in keeping with local and national policy
? To liaise effectively with all appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team, in order to promote a seamless service for the patient both within the Trust and with primary care services.
? To communicate sensitive condition-related information to patients, relatives and carers requiring high levels of empathy and reassurance.
? Ensure that care planning and communication takes account the patient’s background, culture and understanding of the individuals involved
? To assess the patient undergoing chemotherapy ensuring all relevant investigations have been completed and reviewed and to obtain consent prior to chemotherapy administration
? Ensure that patients, their families and carers have access to information that is current and allows them to make relevant and necessary decisions in order to participate in their condition management
? To insert peripheral cannula and access central venous catheters, and administer chemotherapy after completing theoretical and practical training in line with national guidance
? To provide specialist clinical advice and recommendations to patients, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team on issues relating to chemotherapy administration
? To have a knowledge of and to manage the potential complications and side effects of chemotherapy e.g. extravasation and chemotherapy spillages
? To provide appropriate and timely information to patients and their carers, regarding their disease, treatments and services available
? To maintain accurate and concise documentation in relation to clinical caseload
? To organise and manage own caseload seeking advice where necessary
? To act as the patient's advocate in leading, promoting and delivering the highest standard of nursing care, ensuring all fundamentals of care are addressed, and relevant policies and procedures adhered to.
? To ensure the provision of appropriate verbal and written patient information, thus empowering the patient to make informed decisions
