Job Description

We are Manchester Local Care Organisation - an exciting, new public sector organisation that is bringing together NHS community health services and social care services in the city. We're driven by the aim of improving the health of local people in Manchester by working across organisational boundaries.

The first health and social care staff have been deployed to us from April 2018 and are now starting to work in new ways across the city. Our teams work as one in the neighbourhoods they serve - delivering and designing services in partnership with local people. We also provide key services that work across wider localities and city-wide. We believe that our pioneering approach will make a massive difference to the health of people in our city and we are looking for you to join our team and help us do this.

Possibly the only service of its kind across the country - Manchester School Health Service is unique in the fact it has remodelled itself to incorporate School Nursing and Healthy Schools to fulfil the requirements of Manchester's fast moving public health agenda.

Restructured in line with the health needs of our city's children, we are a forward thinking, progressive and dynamic service that works citywide to improve the wellbeing outcomes of our children and their families. We tackle health inequalities by encouraging and supporting schools to contribute to key city's public health priorities and by ensuring we provide high quality care and support to all school aged children, young people and their families.

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with previous school nursing experience. You will have studied at Higher Education Level 6 and will hold either ENB 998 or an equivalent Mentorship qualification. Ideally you will be a qualified BSc Hons Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - School Nursing (SCPHN). You will act as Named Nurse for an identified school(s) and will deliver the Healthy Child Programme and you will take a lead role for the Public Health priority around Relationships and Sex Education. Due to Coivd-19 you will be working in a rapidly changing environment and could be subjected to a change of team to support the school nursing service delivery. This will include undertaking roles within safeguarding, immunisation or screening. You will also be required to work closely with your colleagues in the School Nurse Vulnerable School Children Team ensuring robust hand over of care is implemented when indicated.

Collaborative working is an integral part of this role and you will work with the Health Improvement Practitioner from the Healthy Schools Service. Together you will plan the delivery of Health Promotion programmes and public health strategies to address needs identified via the Health Check. You will also be required to work closely with your colleagues in the School Nurse Vulnerable Children's Team ensuring robust hand over of care is implemented when indicated. With this in mind you need to have: strong interpersonal skills; be able to negotiate and communicate with a wide range of professionals from all levels in a confident manner. You will require excellent leadership skills and will demonstrate this, leading by example through practice with positive attitude and presentation. You will be expected to coordinate, facilitate and contribute to all service delivery by supporting junior staff members.

In return, you'll receive ongoing supervision and continued professional development, including a complete Healthy Child Programme training package. You will have the opportunity to contribute as a team member to the overall vision and direction of the new Manchester School Health Service.

If you want a challenge, like working with a fast paced, dynamic team of professionals where your role will be integral to the smooth running day to day effectiveness of the team and allows then this role presents a real opportunity to broaden your skill-set while at the same time making a difference and having a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of Manchester's children and young people.
