Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities The department has a good working relationship with our colleagues across the Trust, our patients and importantly their friends and families. Our ward staff work closely with the end of life care team to ensure that we are able to offer excellent advanced care planning. We pride ourselves in delivery excellent patient care.
Medway NHS Foundation Trust has as joined the 'End PJ Paralysis' initiative (#endpjparalysis). Our aim is to get our patients up, dressed and moving while they are in hospital so we can prevent the problems caused by staying in bed too long and, hopefully, get them home quicker.

Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
  • RN1 Nurse on NMC Register
  • BSc/1st Degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training/experience
  • Mentorship/teaching qualification or evidence of continuing professional development


Knowledge Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice Able to assess plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients / clients and give relevant advice / information to patients and relatives.
  • Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners
  • Ability to administer prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and administration of blood products.
  • Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information. To include dealing with distressed relatives, care of terminally ill and other challenging situations.


Experience Essential criteria
  • Proven experience on managing a ward; including management of rotas, managing competencies, resources and staff
  • Experience of teaching / assessing / supervising others in a clinical setting


Skills Essential criteria
  • Able to assess plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients / clients and give relevant advice / information to patients and relatives.
  • Ability to administer prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and administration of blood products
