Clinical Nurse Specialist-Lead Apheresis

The role of an apheresis nurse is manages the donor/patient's clinical status, the venous access, the infusion of blood components or specialized fluids, but also the apheresis device. Additional responsibilities include donor/patient/family/public education.
YOUR CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
As an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist within the oncology field and particularly in the area of apheresis you will lead the apheresis service providing expert knowledge to patients and donors. Part of your role will also involve providing training, support and education to colleagues so they can become competent in apheresis procedures and you will do this in accordance with service requirements, quality management, JACIE and Human Tissue Authority guidelines. Your day to day will involve providing patient information regarding apheresis procedures and ensuring that informed consent has been obtained and also ensuring pre-collection donor/ patient medical assessments are complete prior to both autologous and allogenic stem cell collections. You will also communicate with multi-disciplinary teams, stem cell/blood bank and the Haematology consultants to ensure patients are receiving the best treatment at all times and the service is running smoothly and efficiently. As a lead for the department you will also get in involved with stem cell collection quality meetings and provide leadership in clinical practise and act as a resource and a role model.
YOUR EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
To be eligible for the role, you will need to:
- To be considered for this role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist for Apheresis you would have at least 5 years nursing experience along with at least 3 years' experience in Oncology care and more specifically experience Apheresis speciality.
- A MSc would be desirable although not essential as would a chemotherapy qualification.
- You will have the ability to motivate a team and be a good team player.
- You will have excellent communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to work well under pressure.
