Job Description

Acute Adult Care Division
Respiratory Ward
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated provider of acute, intermediate and community health care serving the population of Bolton. This provides us with an opportunity for our services to work closely with our partners in primary care and the local authority to ensure a seamless service for our patients.
Here at Bolton our patients are at the heart of everything we do. We ensure our patients receive the highest quality of Care and are guided by our trust Values. We are proud that our Trust is a centre of excellence for maternity, neonatal and care for children, and that it has been rated as Good by the Quality Care Commission (CQC). This is in recognition of the patient experience and quality of care that our staff provide to patients. It is also supported by our Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional Framework for Professional Practice.
The Acute Adult Care Division is one of four Clinical Divisions in the Trust that includes Emergency Care, Complex Care and Specialist Medicine. The Division contains the busiest single site Emergency Department in Greater Manchester and has inpatient wards providing acute medicine, rehabilitation and specialist medicine services. It provides a range of specialist out-patient and community services and is committed to providing excellent clinical performance and patient care.
There are exciting opportunities (Full and Part Time) to join our highly motivated, dynamic and hardworking team within Respiratory Medicine. If you want to develop your nursing skills in this specialty and are a team player then this could be the job for you.
D3 and D4 are 27 bedded Respiratory wards, one being male and the other female, which are part of the respiratory unit within the Trust. The wards provide acute respiratory medical care for patients with a wide variety of respiratory conditions with acute and chronic lung disease.
We also have a four bedded enhanced care units on the wards offering level one ward level care to patients who require non-invasive ventilation for type 2 respiratory conditions which incorporates the use of high tech equipment for the monitoring of acutely unwell patients. Once stabilised, the patients would then be transferred on to the main respiratory ward where their care would be continued.
This enables our nurses to learn advanced respiratory skills, and become competent in managing patients' requiring non-invasive ventilation, blood gas interpretation, tracheostomy, cough assist and chest drain patients. You will also gain skills in managing complex general medical patients who often have complex nursing, behavioural and social needs.
As a newly qualified or experienced nurse, we can offer you training packages to suit your needs and your specific learning style. We offer an extensive respiratory competency package for all trained nurses which supports you in being competent with specialised areas such as tracheostomy and laryngectomy management, chest drain care and none invasive ventilation management. We have a team dedicated to new and existing staff that will support your learning and facilitate competency assessments to ensure that you are highly trained within respiratory medicine.
There are also rotational opportunities within the specialities to gain a wider breadth of experience in managing acutely unwell and complex patients.
We are therefore looking to recruit motivated, hardworking nurses who have excellent communication skills & a passion for their role and improving patient care. When working clinically we expect you to perform with passion and drive, provide clinically excellent care, and be supportive to patients, relatives, and other MDT members. As a registered nurse you will be expected to promote and lead the delivery of an excellent standard of patient centred care in a supported environment.
The aims of this Trust are to improve the health of and provide the best possible care to the population in which we serve and ensure that our staff have joy and pride in their work. We are striving to recruit a workforce that reflects the communities in which we serve. We value our staff and can offer excellent opportunities for further training and development.
