Job Description

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) is delighted to be offering Band 5 posts within our Low Secure Services. Our integrated organisation will provide inpatient and community-based mental healthcare to people living in Bolton, Salford, Trafford and the city of Manchester, with specialist services covering Greater Manchester and beyond. This change offers a unique opportunity to take a leading role in the implementation of the Greater Manchester Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy and to support the delivery of key priorities around prevention, access, integration and sustainability.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Specialist Services Network- Low Secure Step Down Service.
Wentworth House is a 10 bedded female unit set in the community that provides a secure recovery service for patients who have received treatment in a more secure environment (such as medium or low secure). The typical length of stay is expected to be up to 3 years though it is recognised some patients may need longer term treatment.

Band 5 Staff Nurses are active members of the ward team who will deliver effective care and treatment to service users whilst playing an integral role within the multi-disciplinary team. You will act as Primary/Associate Nurse to a number of service users within a medium or low secure environment. Staff nurses will assist in the smooth co-ordination and running of the ward. We require dynamic individuals with a genuine interest and positive attitude who wish to pursue a challenging career in forensic nursing. We offer excellent opportunities for personal and professional development via, appraisal personal development plans and training.

We will provide you with a 6 week introductory course for all of our new B5 nurses and successful applicants can choose from Psycho Social Interventions (PSI) or Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT). These sessions aim to provide an awareness of these interventions and their use within secure services. The sessions will be run in-house and we will be involving service user experts in their delivery.

Staff Nurses will receive a thorough induction and training package including full preceptorship programme, regular Managerial and Clinical supervision, Resilience training sessions coordinated by Advanced Practitioners and regular See Think Act Table top exercises to help you develop your skills and knowledge.
For newly qualified Band 5 nurses, we provide additional and bespoke support during the preceptorship period to ensure that individual needs and objectives are achieved. Our Practice Development Nurse will work alongside you to enable development of the skills, knowledge and competencies that you need to successfully complete your preceptorship, and to feel confident and assured in your role as Nurse in Charge and Primary Nurse on a ward.

Key Requirements of the Post Holder:

Up-to-date NMC registration as a first level mental health nurse.

Have recent experience of working proactively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Have recent experience of working within and supporting staff to deliver care to patients who are complex and have challenging needs in order to demonstrate the required understanding of risk management.

Have recent experience of working proactively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Be assessed by Occupational Health as having a level of physical fitness required to undertake the role and required essential training.
