Job Description

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist who is passionate for the well-being of Older People with Mental Health Needs and keen to develop and hone skills which will truly enhance and revitalise professional practice.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a brand new service based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital responding to patients who have a diagnosis of dementia or cognitive impairment and are experiencing an escalation of those symptoms or a degree of crisis requiring specialist intervention. In addition to working with the MDT in the Kent and Canterbury, William Harvey and QEQM hospitals you will be required to work alongside carers and other external agencies. The role involves assessing patient needs, their risks and putting in place care plans to support discharge\/transition from the acute hospitals and follow up work with care homes to support staff to manage complex behaviours.

In order to be considered for this post you will need to be able to demonstrate the following;
  • You will be required to work across a 7 day period including bank holidays.
  • Minimum of 2 years posts registration experience in Mental Health.
  • Good clinical experience and knowledge of working with dementia complex behaviours.
  • Experience of liaising with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Planning and decision making skills.
  • Good knowledge of clinical governance and how you can contribute towards this.
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Leadership skills - ability to guide and motivate others in clinical aspects and through periods of change.
  • Example of contribution to service development.
