Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, caring and motivated individual to join our established Stroke and TIA service at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust to cover maternity leave for 12 months.

We are seeking an experienced stroke nurse to provide services for TIA, stroke rehabilitation and neuro-rehabilitation patients across the hospital. The stroke service has 22 beds and 6 neuro-rehabilitation beds on Mark ward. The co-located services are managed by the stroke multi-disciplinary team.

You will provide highly specialist stroke nursing skills, supporting treatment and care across the stroke patient pathway. You will be expected to run twice weekly stroke follow-up and TIA clinics with the ability to use highly developed specialist assessment and diagnostic skills. You will be expected to practice autonomously within the clinic setting and to initiate, review and manage treatment. You will be an experienced stroke nurse with excellent understanding of the causes and effects of stroke on patients and their families.

You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work well within a multidisciplinary setting. The successful candidate must have a proven ability in leading and providing evidence based care to patients with stroke in an efficient and effective manner. You will be required to demonstrate the ability to monitor service quality and to initiate service changes to meet National and local standards. You will have a track record of improving care for patients and their families and in initiating and managing service improvement across disciplines.

Showing commitment and direction to the team as a whole you will be a leader in the teaching, training and supervision of all grades of staff. In this role you will be expected to develop highly specialist knowledge in all aspects of Stroke and neuro-rehabilitation.

This role is suitable for an experienced senior stroke nurse with highly developed clinical, communication and leadership skills.
