Job Description

A great opportunity is available to work within one of the busiest and most diverse Accident and Emergency Departments in the country. DHU Healthcare CIC (LLR) are looking for dynamic, experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioners to work within the A&E front door assessment team. With over 600 A&E visits to the LRI per day and a large majority of these patients self-presenting, it is the responsibility of the DHU clinicians to rapidly assess, triage and direct patients to the most appropriate facility to meet their care needs. With the support of the Clinical Service Lead and Clinical Lead, clinicians will be responsible to referring patients to local GP services, Walk-in-centres, Local Pharmacies as well as to services within the hospital such as A&E Majors, specialist care and other DHU services such as Primary care. In addition to the initial front door streaming zone, DHU also provide Primary Care services at the LRI. Clinicians are responsible for the further detailed assessment and subsequent treatment of patients deemed to be suitable for Primary Care. DHU provides the gateway to A&E and clinical resolution to patients within Leicestershire. We need proactive, forward thinking clinicians to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time, in the right location.
Purpose of the Role
 
The post holder will be responsible for the autonomous clinical assessment, and/or referral or giving advice as appropriate to first contact clients across a wide spectrum of clinical conditions within the services provided by DHU Urgent Care (LLR) within the Emergency Department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability
 
Clinical
 
  • To practice as an advanced nurse practitioner without direct supervision providing a clinical service within the work of the company.
  • To assess, diagnose, treat and refer patients requiring the clinical service according to the LRI front Door service Model and area allocated to work i.e. Assessment Zone or Primary Care Stream.
  • Seek advice of specialists as appropriate and follow this advice as appropriate.
  • Managing patients within specified time parameters (this will be communicated separately).
Person Specification
 
The job holder will have;
Qualifications & Academic/ professional
  • First Level registered nurse/ paramedic.
  • Autonomous practice experience supported by the appropriate post registration qualifications preferably at level 7.
  • Evidence of experience using advanced clinical examination and assessment skills within practice supported by the appropriate post registration qualification.
  • Successful completion of a course leading to the independent non-medical prescribing qualification.
Experience
  • Autonomous practice working and multi-professional team working.
  • Evidence of using advanced physical examination and assessment skills in practice.
  • Can demonstrate a broad and sound knowledge of complex and common conditions in primary care in both adults and children of all ages.
