Consultant Anaesthetist

As a Specialist Anaesthesiologist at Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH), you will have the unique and exciting opportunity to genuinely shape the growth and development of a key clinical service.

LRH is located in the heart of the beautiful Gippsland region and is a major provider of a range of health services across Gippsland. We are experiencing significant growth, with our $217 million hospital expansion due to open early 2024.

The Anaesthesia department at Latrobe Regional Health in Victoria, Australia provides clinical anaesthesia to all major surgical specialties (except cardiac and neurosurgery). There is a busy general surgical service (including major abdominal cases) and regular sessions with visiting specialist thoracic surgeons, urologists, paediatric surgeons and ENT surgeons. There is an active vascular intervention suite and a growing cardiac catheterisation laboratory. Plans for a ‘hot STEMI’ service are underway and are likely to be operational in the near term. These will inevitably increase opportunities for interested anaesthesiologists to be involved in caring for patients with more complicated cardiac disease. The Orthopaedic Surgical service is busy and has daily elective and emergency lists. Major joint replacements and orthopaedic trauma are commonplace. There is also a busy Elective and Emergency Obstetric service (which functions as the regional referral centre for higher-risk obstetrics).

Fractional and Full Time appointments are available allowing a great work-life balance.

• Pro rata pay at the base rate for Anaesthetic Specialists for the first 12 months of employment with automatic transition to the higher rate of pay at the completion of 12 months (and successful application for FANZCA). This approximates to 255k AUD not including after-hours/penalty payments and other benefits listed below.

Assisting overseas applicants:

We have extensive experience supporting foreign specialists to meet their ANZCA training requirements ensuring a smooth transition to obtaining one’s FANZCA. We offer a relocation package of $13 000 AUD provided there is a 2-year commitment to the facility.

We are looking for candidates with:

• A Bachelor of Medicine with eligibility for unrestricted registration as a specialist with AHPRA

• An interest in Supervisor of Training, Perioperative Medicine, and Acute Pain leadership

• FANZCA or equivalent comparability with FANZCA (or willingness to transition to the Fellowship of ANZCA)
