Job Description

Band 5 Staff Nurse – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

• Location: Great Ormond Street Hospital

• Hours: 37.5 hours / (Mixed shift pattern: 07:45 – 20:15 and 19:45 to 08:15)

• Type: Full Time/Permanent (Part Time hrs considered)

• Salary: Between £34,089 - £41,498 per annum inclusive (depending on experience)

We are looking for NMC-registered nurses to join Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) to work in their well-established team within the Heart and Lung Directorate.

About the role

NICU primarily cares for infants requiring surgical intervention shortly after birth. We routinely care for infants undergoing treatment for congenital diaphragmatic hernias, exomphalus, gastroschisis and TOF + OA; patients requiring treatment for NEC and undergoing PDA ligations are also cared for. NICU cares for babies from birth up to 6 months. There is the opportunity to care for a range of infants undergoing specialised treatment and to become an advocate for patients throughout the pre- and post-operative period. We work alongside the patient’s families to ensure the best possible outcome.

Development Provided

Once you're here, you'll be given a preceptor or mentor based on your background and receive ongoing assistance from our own ward-based education team. Where necessary, these employees will assist you as you develop your skills and confidence.

If you want to rotate across all the areas and specialties within Heart and Lung, you will be able to do so by participating in customised development programmes, which include alternatives.

Requirements for this role

• NMC Registration (Child or Adult)

• Relevant nursing qualification

• Experience of working within ICU is essential (Adult, Paediatrics or Neonates)

• Evidence of continuous professional development

• Experience of working with acutely unwell patients essential

• Ability to work well both in a team and on own initiative

• Good time management skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Computer literate
