Speech and Language Therapist

The post holder will be working within the Paediatric team in a Community Clinic, offering a Service for pre and school aged children with speech, language and communication disorders.

§ You will be responsible for liaison with and day to day support of unqualified staff.

§ You will be working closely with colleagues in Children’s Young Peoples and Families Services across Essex Community Services.

§ To provide an appropriate assessment and delivery of treatment to children with a range of speech, language and communication difficulties

§ To work as part of the Speech and Language Therapy Service providing Speech and Language Therapy working closely with colleagues in Health and Education

KEY STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES

§ To be responsible and accountable for the independent management of own clinical caseload of children with speech, language and communication skills.

§ To manage and prioritise the caseload to balance and meet as far as is possible, the needs of the patients, carers, other members of the Speech and Language Therapy team and other professionals, in situations where there may be a restricted number of options.

OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

§ To participate in development of SLT Service risk management, quality standards setting and Clinical Governance/audit projects, advising clinical lead of any changes of developments that may affect service planning and policy.

§ To attend relevant and agreed training and development, participate in annual appraisal and clinical supervision, using ‘Care Aims’ and appropriate outcome measures to evaluate personal clinical effectiveness.

§ To ensure that equipment, assessment tools and other essential supplies are requested in a timely manner, to be responsible for the security, stock control, care and maintenance of all equipment.

§ To participate as requested by line manager in undergraduate clinical and observational placements for all relevant disciplines.

§ To maintain up to date and accurate electronic case notes in line with RCSLT professional standards and local guidelines and policies.
