Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To build close working relationships and networks within the Directorate and other agencies in order to develop an efficient and effective multidisciplinary assessment and therapeutic response to children, young people, families and carers.
  • To work closely with colleagues from other disciplines to ensure the coordinated delivery of multi-disciplinary care and maximise the effectiveness of early intervention
  • To make comprehensive assessment identifying needs including general medical/nursing assessment based on the interpretation of complex facts, information and situation. To then decide upon appropriate action, which may require referral into CAMHS specialist teams.
  • To assess plan implement and evaluate care to children and young people, including those with a learning disability/mental health need in line with nursing process.
  • To develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with children, young people, their families and carers who may at times be in situations of emotional distress.
  • To provide a flexible approach to children young people their families and carers who may have difficulties engaging with services.
  • To communicate information regarding children young people in an empathic and supportive way using appropriate shills in situations which can be emotional and sometimes potentially volatile.
  • Use a variety of techniques to communicate effectively with people according to their age understanding language and ability. This may include working with interpreters, play skills with children and adapt language for young people with learning differences.
  • To adopt an investigative approach to therapeutic work.
  • Using Nursing skills and experience in conjunction to specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health experience to support training and to offer consultation to staff within the Directorate and other agencies such as school nurses and nurses on the general paediatric wards.
  • To ensure Bradford/Airedale, and Carven/North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children and Child Protection Guidelines and procedures are fully understood by self and others with whom the professional may come into contact.
  • To ensure the safety needs of the child are met at all times and take appropriate action when the child is felt to be at risk.
  • To actively promote user/carer involvement in all aspects of care planning and delivery whilst respecting the rights, cultural needs, capabilities and wishes of the individuals concerned.
  • To provide an accessible service in a variety of settings this may include homes, school or other community bases.
  • Contribute to the formulation and review of CAMHS polices and protocols.

    Essential criteria
    • Professional qualification and training in either: 1.Registered Nursing, Social Work, Occupational therapist,
    • Band 6
    • 2 Per Years Post qualifying experience

    • 2 Per Years experienced as a practitioner and able to work autonomously with confidence in their abilities and knowledge. 2.Experience of working with children, adolescents and families using various approaches, e.g. individual, behavioural, family, group. 3.Experience of networking, liaising and/or consulting to other professionals. 4.Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
