Job Description
We are looking to recruit warm, compassionate, caring, hard working individuals to join our friendly, motivated and dynamic team at HMP Garth.
Health Care Support workers are valuable members of our multidisciplinary team supporting the Qualified Nurses and Medical staff in providing holistic care to patients in custody.
Applicants must possess good communication skills, have a pleasant personality and be committed to patient care.

Healthcare services operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, and the successful applicants would need to be flexible in their approach to meeting the demands of the service.
This post is full time: Monday - Friday 8am- 4pm

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To contribute and support delivery of Integrated mental health and clinical substance misuse care to patients in custody at HMP Garth, by providing nursing care by taking clinical observations of a patient; understanding the NEWS2; Venepuncture and ECG. Training will be provided.
Support the patients under the care of the Clinical Substance Misuse service.
To assist nursing staff in their assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individual care plans.
To work effectively in providing multidisciplinary care, working with internal and external agencies.
To promote service user recovery, and thus support independent and healthier lifestyles

Essential & Desirable
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a healthcare environment
- Ability to work under pressure
- Experience of working with clients with severe and enduring psychological difficulties
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of people including: service users, carers, members of the public and other professionals
Desirable criteria
- Clinical observations or willingness to develop skills
- Experience of dual diagnosis patient
- Knowledge of specialist needs of service users within the prison environment and criminal justice systems.
- Basic mental health knowledge
- Willingness to develop in areas of practice depending on service need
