Job Description
Main duties and responsibilities:
- To practice within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to this at all times
- To assess, plan and evaluate individualised programmes of care for patients in partnership with the patient, their carer's and the multi- disciplinary team
- To support and assist in the health education of patients and their families
- To ensure care is delivered in accordance with latest evidence-based practice guidelines
- To maintain up to date and comprehensive records of care in accordance with NMC and legal requirements
- To support junior colleagues, students, and visitors to the department
- To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, thereby acting as a positive role model for nurses and other staff
- To participate in Trust and Division initiatives to develop nursing practice
- To manage an agreed workload with support from colleagues and senior staff as appropriate
- To ensure that all Trust and local policies, protocols and procedures are adhered to by colleagues as appropriate
- To participate in reflection & / or Clinical Supervision sessions as provided
- To observe personal responsibility for resource management
- To observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and wellbeing of self, work colleagues, visitors, and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management associated with this post
- To achieve a range of clinical competencies as required within the Trust and Division
- To maintain your own personal and professional development in accordance with PREP requirements, attending mandatory study sessions as required
Person Specification:
Education/Qualification - Essential
- Registered Nurse
Experience/Core dimensions - Essential
- At least 6 months post-registration experience in a cardiac speciality or other acute speciality
- Managing acutely ill patients
- Proven ability to safely administer oral and intravenous medications
- Able to prioritise and manage workload
- Good verbal and written communication skills paying attention to accuracy and detail
- Interest to develop knowledge of the clinical speciality and own practice
- Awareness and understanding of current health issues
- Able to undertake tasks to support biomedical investigations and interventions
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in response to changing situations
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work co-operatively with other members of staff
- Want to do things better, to improve to be more effective and efficient
- Full understanding of the NMC code of professional conduct
- Physically able to do all aspects of the clinical nursing role, to include manual handling
- Keen to develop your management skills, assisting in professional development and management of junior colleagues.

- Mentorship course or SSSA
- Cardiac course
