Job overview

The acute oncology support worker will work alongside and under the guidance of the acute oncology clinical nurse specialists to provide support, advice and assessment for patients who have been diagnosed with cancer and are acutely unwell, receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) or have a cancer of unknown primary. Often being a point of contact to offer advice and support as able signposting and referring on as required. They will take an active role in contributing towards the developing and running of support groups and educational events and support the nurse specialists in achieving Macmillan Quality Standards

The support worker will provide a link between nurse specialists and allied health professionals ensuring timely and accurate referrals are made to appropriate services.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting new role in the expanding Acute Oncology Service. We are a friendly team working in an interesting and fast paced service across the Trust caring for patients who are acutely unwell or undergoing investigations for cancer of unknown primary. We also provide a service to patients undergoing immunotherapy. The support worker will be a vital and valued role within the service.
