Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities The Band 7 role within the ED is a rewarding role. You will lead our dynamic, multi-disciplinary team on a daily basis, ensuring the smooth running of shifts in a challenging and diverse environment. Your clinical leadership and people skills are vital to delivering the responsibilities and accountabilities outlined in this job description.
Main responsibilities
Ensure the Accident and Emergency department personnel maintain a safe working environment in which the needs of patients are paramount and all patients receive high standards of Individualized care whilst maintaining their privacy dignity.
Co-ordinate and monitor the care given by all members of staff in the Accident and Emergency department, liaise with multi-disciplinary team and outside agencies to ensure continued care delivery, taking appropriate action if care fall below an accepted standard.
Use clinical expertise to anticipate risks to patient health whilst waiting in the Accident and Emergency department, identifying realistic goals for patient outcomes, monitoring all members of the interprofessional team to ensure smooth delivery of holistic care.
To be competent in extended specialist skills including, venepuncture, cannulation, suturing, plastering and management of emergency situations.
 
Maintain high standards of nursing care reflecting evidence-based practice, participating and leading on projects or work associated with 'essence of care' bench marking and other quality improvement initiatives.
To act as a resource to staff to ensure patients have adequate information / health advice before leaving the department. Ensure all staff adheres to all Trust and department policies Understand and implement Trust Infection Control Policy.

Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Post graduate courses relevant to specialty
  • BSc or evidence of study at level 6
  • Teaching and assessing course
  • ILS
  • Safeguarding level 3

Desirable criteria
  • MSc or evidence of study at level 7
  • ALS
  • Level 1 or 2 Trauma qualifications
  • Management and leadership course


Experience Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience within specialty
  • Experience of team and shift management
  • Experience in conducting appraisals

Desirable criteria
  • Experience in serivce improvement implementation
  • Experience in research and audit


Knowledge Essential criteria
  • Application of evidence based practice and knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Understanding of Clinical Audit & Clinical Governance
  • Understanding of quality assurance
  • Ability to create an environment which facilitates learning
  • Commitment to self development and development of others

Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and experience of change management theories


Skills Essential criteria
  • Well developed leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and organise workload of self and others
  • Ability to work flexibly within an emergency setting
  • Triage trained
  • Computer literate
