Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Policy & Service Development
  • To support clinical pharmacy services for clinical trials for patients at KCH & PRUH in conjunction with the Pharmacy Team Leader - Clinical Trials. Liaising with the appropriate clinical pharmacy team, the KHPCTO staff, Clinical Research Associates, R&I staff, Investigators and other staff groups involved in Clinical trials as appropriate.
  • To share work with other Trusts who are participating in the same clinical trials.
  • To ensure delivery of the clinical governance agenda in relation to medicines used within clinical trials.

Patient & Client Care
  • To act as a clinical role model in relation to specialist expertise in the area of clinical trials for patients and demonstrate the ability to provide safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of clinical trial drugs.
  • To promote and deliver pharmaceutical care for all patients.
  • To help develop, write and validate new and existing protocols/proformas for clinical trials, as appropriate.
  • To provide highly specialised evidence-based clinical advice and information to pharmacy, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals on the care and treatment of patients.
  • To provide specialist advice in relation to clinical trials for patients and recommendations to principal investigators of clinical trials on matters related to the pharmaceutical and legal aspects of clinical trial development.

Financial & Resource Management
  • To evaluate cost implications of clinical trials in terms of efficient and effective use of resources and pharmacy workforce implications as part of the assessment of suitability for trials to be undertaken at KCH.
  • To support the Pharmacy Team Leader - Clinical Trials in monitoring the financial impact of Clinical trials on drug expenditure and providing accurate expenditure information, with appropriate analysis, as appropriate.

Research & Development
  • To demonstrate a critical approach towards pharmacy practice in clinical trials.
  • To integrate research and audit evidence into practice.
  • To identify gaps in evidence based practice.
  • To regularly initiate or contribute to relevant practice research or audit projects within the Division and to publish the results of such work, as appropriate.

Hospital Experience

  • 1 year or more


Diploma
Essential criteria
  • Diploma or working towards Diploma or equivalent


Clinical trial experience
Desirable criteria
  • Involvement in Pharmacy specific Clinical Trial activities


Evidence of training others
Essential criteria
  • evidence of training staff


Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of managing others


Haematology and or Oncology experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in processing haematology and oncology prescriptions


Clinical Trial Experience
Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of process of Clinical Trials
