Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

An exciting opportunity to be part of our dedicated workforce.

The Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) is developing its Care of Elderly Services with the opening of a Frailty Ward and upgrade of Geriatrics in-patient facilities.

The Department of Clinical Gerontology at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH), a division of Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, is looking for an enthusiastic and committed physician with a passion for patient centred, fully integrated Gerontology care to join our friendly, forward-looking team.

The post provides a choice of exciting opportunities, from Acute Frailty to Community Outreach, Orthogeriatrics and Surgical Liaison. Applicants will have the choice of sub-specialty. This includes working across the Acute Frailty Unit on the PRUH site and the new Community Facing Frailty Wards at Orpington Hospital, Movement Disorder Clinic and Falls service. Other specialist areas of interest within Geriatrics are encouraged and can be discussed on application. The post holder will work closely with colleagues in ED, Acute Medicine and will be involved in the unselected GIM take.

There will be many opportunities to help develop clinical pathways within acute care as well as in the community including GP liaison systems and multidisciplinary team working to provide excellent patient-centred care. Applications for job sharing are welcome. We welcome informal visits.

We are currently developing our acute frailty pathway and would particularly welcome applications from candidates with a specialist interest or experience in frailty.

Applicants should hold a CCT in both Geriatric and General Medicine ideally or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of expected date of receipt of the CCT at the time of interview.

The Princess Royal University Hospital and Orpington Hospital are close to Bromley and Orpington town centres which have fast rail links to central London (18 minute journey) in addition to being only 20 minutes' drive from the M25. The leafy suburban location is a great place to live and work.

Some recent investments at the Princess Royal University Hospital include:
  • New dementia friendly Frailty Assessment Unit - part of the Applyrailty strategy for the PRUH, and partway through ward dementia friendly redevelopment programme.
  • Strong EDI site presence and network across KCH, with local events planned throughout the year.
  • Our site CEO is Chair of One Bromley - a group of public sector bodies across Bromley to work in partnership across the system.
  • New 200 space car park at PRUH site including 40 EVs - constructor appointed, build time of 18 weeks, completion August 2022
