Detailed job description and main responsibilities
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Practice
  • To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all
  • To demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of all patients receiving treatment in the
  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of the babies on the unit on an ongoing basis, coordinating the care given by all members of the clinical
  • To accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about the baby’s condition, instigate appropriate remedial action and promptly report
  • To act as a resource person to other, providing accurate information, advice and support to the MDT, patients and parents/carers.
  • To ensure accurate records are maintained reflecting both changes in the baby’s condition and the treatment delivered.
  • To ensure parents/carers are updated regularly with accurate information in a sensitive way they can
  • To actively involve parents/carers in providing feedback of their experience of the current service and suggestions for
  • To ensure that clinical guidelines, standards and policies are implemented and to be actively involved in auditing practice in conjunction with the Ward Manager and Practice Development staff.
  • To liaise with ward staff to ensure timely discharge back to Postnatal
  • To liaise with Community Nursing team, Health Visitors and Community Midwives to ensure seamless discharges
  • To ensure that practice is evidence bases and assist in the development and review of policies and protocols in the clinical
  • To support the process of continuous quality improvement and support implementation of changes that are identified.
  • To organise transfer of babies to other clinical areas both within and outside the
  • To participate and contribute to the health education of families, ensuring that all families/carers receive appropriate advice and support to achieve/maintain a healthy
  • To be aware of the Trust’s safeguarding policies and procedures and demonstrate the ability to effectively raise concerns and work with other agencies to protect

Education and Research
  • To act as a Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor to junior and newly qualified staff members. Participate in the orientation, supervision and ongoing development of these staff in conjunction with the Ward Manager and Practice Development
  • To ensure completion of relevant practice assessment documents within agreed time
  • To act as a mentor for staff undertaking further education as requested, ensuring a positive learning experience and facilitating the development of their clinical
  • To contribute to the wider educational activities within the Care
  • To promote and encourage the application of research and evidence based
  • To participate in any research projects conducted within the clinical area as
  • To act as link nurse for identified areas (i.e. Infection Control, Tissue Viability). Attend and contribute to Trust wide meetings and disseminate relevant information back to the staff within the

Management
  • To actively support the implementation of the Trust nursing strategy and uphold the ethos of the Trust’s
  • To manage the clinical workload effectively, ensuring care is prioritised
  • To contribute positively towards the delivery of a cost effective service, adjusting staffing levels to meet demand and assisting the ward manager to keep within agreed
  • To actively support allocated staff through the appraisal
  • To develop own skills in recruitment and retention, sickness management and performance management as determined by Ward
  • To actively support the process of risk management and health and safety Upholding relevant policies to promote this and ensuring incidents are reported appropriately. Help identify ways of preventing errors and accidents to both patients, visitors and staff.
  • To make a positive contribution to service development affecting the clinical areas and positively influence others to adapt to
  • To actively promote customer care, assisting in resolving local complaints informally and supporting the Ward Manager to investigate formal issues/complaints.
