Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Training & Qualifications
  • Good honours degree in Psychology.
  • Post-graduate doctorate in clinical/forensic/counselling psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS and registered with HCPC .
  • Relevant specialist training in the skills required for the specialty area.
  • Clinical supervision training for supervision of Doctoral trainees on placement. Experience
  • Experience of working as a qualified specialist clinical psychologist for a minimum of four years.
  • Experience of minimum of 100 hours specialist clinical supervision in this area of practice.


Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to comprehend and communicate verbally and in writing highly complex and sensitive information in a manner appropriate to a range of settings and audiences, including complex highly emotive situations and those with significantly impaired communication capacities.
  • Ability to analyse and manage complex multi-factorial information from a range of sources both clinical and organisational, integrate and formulate it from a variety of psychological perspectives and make an expert professional judgement about appropriate options for action in a public service context.
  • Ability to plan, organise and flexibly manage own workload, adapting to the changing priorities of a complex organisational environment and co-ordinating the work of professional colleagues.
  • Adequate keyboard skills and sound understanding of I.T. packages.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Ability to administer accurately and speedily, complex psychometric text materials.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within the field of clinical psychology.
  • Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.


Personal

  • Ability to sit in a constricted position and maintain intense focussed concentration during clinical tasks (i.e. much of the time).
  • Capacity to manage frequent exposure to highly distressing and emotive situations and disclosures.
  • Capacity to tolerate frequent exposure to unpredictable working conditions including demanding, verbally aggressive clients and deal with physical aggression appropriately.
  • Ability to contain and work with organisational stress and ability to 'hold' the stress of others.
Other
  • Ability to work within Professional Guidelines.
  • Must be capable of taking substantial professional responsibility and acting autonomously in respect of clinical decisions in their area of specialist practice.
DESIRABLE
  • Advanced keyboard skills
  • Record of having published in either peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books.
