Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities An exciting opportunity has arisen within High Cost Drugs management & Cancer Clinical Services in pharmacy at Medway Hospital.
Medway Hospital spends over £20million annually on High Cost Drugs (HCDs) with an increasing portfolio of HCD being added. This is increasing rapidly in our cancer services with more complex regimens being added through NHSE & Cancer Drug Fund commissioners which require prior approval funding.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Specialist cancer pharmacist and other senior pharmacy staff to ensure there are robust processes in place to manage HCDs and to minimise commissioner challenges, improve our communication pathways with our commissioners and maximise the cost effective use of all HCDs prescribed at Medway NHS Foundation Trust.
They will also work closely with the pharmacy cancer team to support and develop services on the haematology ward and chemotherapy day unit.
The successful candidate must be self-motivated, be competent in Microsoft applications, and have an understanding of the commissioner funding streams for HCDs and knowledge of drugs used in cancer treatment.
To ensure all CCG, NHSE and CDF commissioned High Cost Drugs (HCD) are appropriately monitored and recorded for compliance with national guidance and income for the Trust. To manage BlueTeq database for HCD, enabling compressive data capture for the pharmacy department.
To provide BlueTeq training and support to relevant pharmacy and clinical staff.
Support and liaise with Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells hospital clinicians in the completion of BlueTeq forms for patients treated at Medway NHS Foundation Trust.
Manage reporting and review of monthly HCD report to income team and to ensure robust & clear HCD dataset is provided to minimise commissioner challenge.
Review and respond to monthly commissioner HCD challenges to minimise financial losses to trust.
Provide a clinical & pharmaceutical service to Lawrence ward and Galton Day Unit (GDU). Act as liaison between Lawrence ward and GDU with Pharmacy Cancer services team and aseptic unit for the planning of cancer treatment.
Support in development of Pharmacy led cancer clinics.
High Cost Drug (HCD) management
Ensure all HCD (CCG, NHSE & CDF commissioned drugs) have a BlueTeq funding form in place before treatment is initiated.
To prepare and implement Standard Operating Procedures for the management of all aspects of HCDs including BlueTeq completion & reporting processes
To support in collecting and monitoring all use of HCDs (including homecare and CDF) and National Tariff Excluded Drugs across the Trust and report any areas of concern to the appropriate directorate
To support finance managers with accurate monthly reports on all HCD usage across the Trust in order for them to reclaim funded high cost drugs from the appropriate organisations.
Ensure timely responses within agreed commissioner timeframes for monthly HCD challenges/enquiries.
Work with specialist cancer pharmacist and Homecare team to increase uptake of both low tech and mid tech cancer HCD used in Homecare.
Support Deputy Chief pharmacist with Trust delivery of Medicines Optimisation CQUIN.
Support Deputy Chief pharmacist with quarterly audit for Medicines Optimisation CQUIN.
Participate in monthly check & challenge meetings with commissioners for HCD.
Work with Deputy Chief Pharmacist and Cancer pharmacy team to develop and deliver on HCD Cost Improvement Plans (CIPs)
To provide BlueTeq training and support to relevant pharmacy and clinical staff in BlueTeq form completion & review.
Review & monitor FP10 prescribing for haematology and oncology clinical areas for inappropriate & non-formulary prescribing and make suggestions for cost-effective prescribing.
Work closely and advise Pharmacy data analyst with JAC annotation for new HCD entered onto JAC stock control system.
Become proficient in the use of the JAC Pharmacy Computer System, crystal reports, the oncology centre KOMS management system, BlueTeq and other electronic databases and prescribing systems, and comply with the Data Protection Act with respect to the entry of patient details from prescriptions.
Cancer Clinical services
To provide a comprehensive cost effective, one-stop and non-stock dispensing service ensuring a full medicine reconciliation is completed for patients, to reconcile with their correct prescription and work with the pharmacist to highlight and resolve queries.
Be responsible for ensuring the provision of the Medicines Management service to designated ward areas, which involves working in clinical areas unsupervised.
To ensure that newly admitted patients have their medicines reconciled accurately within 24 hours of admission to hospital, in accordance with the Medicines Reconciliation
