Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To work effectively with sound judgement when dealing with complex emotional situations, family dynamics and in difficult environments.
  • To work in partnership with parents/guardians and gain informed consent.
  • To create individual care plans for specific children, negotiating, agreeing, implementing and evaluating with parents and other professionals.
  • To be responsible for assessing, delivering, developing and maintaining high standards in the quality of care in the home and clinic setting. Delivering face to face support and/or telephone advice.
  • To deliver patient care including accessing central and peripheral IV lines, administration of chemotherapy, IV drug administration, managing and replacing enteral feeding devices, oxygen therapy, suctioning and complex healthcare needs, End of Life Care and Dressings.
  • To maintain skills and training for procedures.
  • Maintain an update log of all training undertaken.
  • Identify and respond to issues of clinical risk.
  • Provide information and training to parents based on assessment of need.
  • Participate and support regular educational audit demonstrating example on an annual basis.
  • To assist in the education and practical development training of all learners, utilising every opportunity for clinical teaching.
  • To deliver nursing within Special Schools as required according to the rota.
  • To recognise own professional limitations
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage time and resources effectively.
  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritise workload and is able to show flexibility in response to urgent and/or changing needs.
  • Through reflection and clinical support, develop strategies to improve, and where necessary change practice.
  • Identify issues relevant to practice governance and participate in sharing knowledge in this forum.
  • Identify areas of practice development and demonstrate the implementation of one practice development initiative per Per Year.

Essential criteria
  • RSCN / RN (Child)
  • Evidence of Continuing professional development


Desirable criteria
  • Community Qualification
  • Independant prescriber
  • Mentoring and Assessing


Experience
Essential criteria
  • Nursing Assessment
  • Central Line and IV experience
  • Enteral Feeding/Gastrostomy Care
  • Wound dressing
  • Observation and measurements using various types of equipment) e.g. Oxygen, Urine analysis
  • Child Protection Process
  • IT Skills
  • Presentation and teaching
  • Sound knowledge of medications, their dosing and side effects


Desirable criteria
  • Cytotoxic Administration
  • Phlebotomy
  • Administration of O2 at home
  • Experience of dealing with End of Life Care
  • Care for the Child or young person with complex health needs or learning difficulties


Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
  • An understanding of issues influencing care in the community including commissioning
  • Ability to recognise own limitations and competencies
  • Flexible to meet the needs of the service including 24 hour care
  • Excellent time keeping abilities
  • Ability to work in a non judgemental manner


Other
Essential criteria
  • Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
