Experience
Essential criteria
  • Experience in working with children in a school setting, leading to a sound understanding of NHS policies & procedures
  • Experience of working in special schools
  • Experience using a wide range of standardised assessments & clinical observations.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team with internal and external agencies e.g. CAMHS, education, service providers
  • Experience implementing the SEND code of practice e.g. EHCP review reports, goal setting


Desirable criteria
  • Experience in working with children who have ASD
  • Experience of planning & running groups
  • An understanding of principles of postural management and some experience in prescribing children’s specialist equipment for seating and bathing
  • Experience using sensory integration therapy
  • Experience in using communication systems relevant to the population
  • Experience in using the CO-OP approach


Skills
Essential criteria
  • Ability to manage own caseload & to reflect on clinical practice & experience with supervision and support from a Band 7 OT.
  • Ability to solve complex problems & take appropriate decisions with support from clinical supervisor
  • Ability to communicate clearly with others using effective listening skills, non-verbal communication and establishing an easy rapport.
  • Flexibility – able to adapt to different demands & situations and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to prioritise & organise workload & time.
  • Ability to write concise, legible notes & reports.
  • Good presentation skills


Desirable criteria
  • Able to deliver training to teacher staff and parents


Knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Understanding & knowledge of up to date evidence base e.g. NICE guidance, relating to ASD, DCD children and related disorders
  • Some understanding of the range of physical & developmental disabilities which can occur with children and the role of the OT in this area.
  • A working knowledge of child development, neuro-developmental stages and the role of occupation in childhood
  • An understanding of current

  • Knowledge in TEACCH
