Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To attend all education days of the Return to Practice course at university and successfully complete all components of the training programme within the contract period.

To complete set Clinical Practice Hours, under the NMC Guidelines, taking responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care needs, under the supervision of registered nursing staff (Assessors & Supervisors). Promoting high quality care delivery in a specified clinical area.

To achieve a level of proficiency in both clinical practice hours and university education suitable for re-entry on the NMC register, within your field of practice.

Patients and people first
  • To provide high standard, person centred, personal and compassionate patient care, putting people first.
  • To take responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care needs
  • To act as the patient's advocate, providing information and support to enable patient choice
  • To ensure sensitivity and confidentiality with all patient related information at all times
  • To be adaptable and responsive in service provision to meet individual patient needs
  • To work in a professional and courteous manner in accordance with the NMC code of conduct at all times

  • To participate in the promotion of good working relationships within the team, demonstrating inter-personal skills which promote clarity, compassion, empathy, respect and trust
  • To work collaboratively as part of a team to ensure that all care is carried out within agreed Trust policies and procedures

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
  • Previously held an NMC registration
  • Passionate about returning to practice
  • Able to undertake the requirements of the course and clinical placement


Desirable criteria
  • Has continued to work in healthcare whilst registration has lapsed
