Job overview

We have an exciting new vacancy for a Band 5 Community Mental Health Nurse to join the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (EIP).

This is a time for transformation where the Early Intervention in Psychosis service is evolving to meet demand. The team have extended the age range from 35 to 65 years and is offering a number of interventions to service users who are presenting with a first episode of psychosis and their families and carers. The service has a strong ethos of ensuring service users and their families/carers are central to leading their recovery. We are looking for a qualified Nurse with relevant experience, who is motivated to work within and contribute to the continued development of this exciting service.

Main duties of the job

Contributing to assessments in the service users own home and in the team base.

Supporting the Team Function receiving new referrals and providing agreed treatments.

Working effectively within the Community Mental Health Service.

Having excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act and procedures.

Working effectively with our partners in the Local Authority and Voluntary Services.

Ensuring assessments are comprehensive and informative to aid diagnosis.

Ensuring that all policies and procedures are adhered to.

Ensuring that all referrals are allocated and seen in a timely manner.

Advocating for the service user and working with carers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The band 5 nursing role in the community teams is an important asset to the multi-disciplinary team and a role that will help to shape the delivery of care to clients with long term conditions and complexity of need. The role also offers opportunities in career development, through the use of the band 5 and band 6 development programmes. The development programmes will assist the band 5 to progress in a safe and confident manner to be ready for career progression to a band 6 nurse. Development opportunities also exist for band 6 nurses in Non-medical prescribing, Approved Mental Health Practitioner and more senior position as Team Leaders, Service Managers and Nurse Consultants.

The post holder will achieve this by:-

Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria
  • Registered on NMC
  • RMN or Dip/Bsc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing

  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
  • Student Mentor


ExperienceEssential criteria
  • Post Registration clinical development
  • To have experience as a caseworker/named nurse
  • Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation aspects of care
  • Working /liaising with multidisciplinary teams and other agencies in the provision of care

Desirable criteria
  • Facilitating and leading groups for clients with severe and enduring mental health problems
  • Evidence of post qualification experience
  • Broad experience of working with adult people with mental health needs
