Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering specialised individualised and personalised direct patient care.
To support the Band 7 CNSs within the Haematology service to provide a holistic service for the optimum care of and ongoing support to individuals diagnosed with a haematological malignancy.
Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. This includes history taking, physical examination and the requesting of agreed diagnostic procedures/clinical examinations.
Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products.
Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the specialty.

Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Level One) or Registered Child Nurse on the NMC Register
  • Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience
  • Mentorship Course


Knowledge Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates Specialist expertise underpinned by theory acquired by continuous professional development
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients and give relevant information/advice to patients and relatives
  • Ability to administer prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products
  • Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners


Experience Essential criteria
  • Previous post registration experience within the relevant specialty
  • Experienced and competent in the management of patients within the specialty
  • Experience of teaching/assessing/supervising others in a clinical setting
