Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities To work autonomously managing a caseload of patients who are of concern or are being stepped-up or down from a critical care area
To triage adult inpatients in the acute hospital setting, providing care and working independently, and referring patients to the appropriate medical teams if required, and according to clinical priority
To undertake comprehensive assessment and initiation of clinical planning and treatment for patients who are deteriorating
To order / request and interpret tests and investigations including chest x-rays on completion of training
To ensure there is compliance with Medway professional standards for recognising and responding to unwell patient to include: a response to NEWS = 5, sepsis and AKI, and any patient with a NEWS = 4 who is causing concern
Demonstrate appropriate expert practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
This includes history taking, physical examination and the requesting of diagnostic procedures/clinical investigations

Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
  • First level registered Nurse with a degree level qualification / in progress or equivalent
  • Experience Mentorship or equivalent knowledge
  • Intensive care unit course


Knowledge Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of acute care nursing
  • Ability to develop working relationships locally, regionally and nationally
  • Awareness of NOrF Operational Standards and Competencies for Critical Care Outreach Services 2012


Experience Essential criteria
  • Evidence of experience of teaching to a range of staff groups
  • Has proven broad clinical experience post registration at Band 6
  • Experience in multidisciplinary working
  • Leadership experience

Skills Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills demonstrated through the delivery of presentations and producing articles
  • Demonstrate sound leadership skills in contexts that are unfamiliar, complex, and unpredictable and provide consultancy services to their own and other professions on therapeutic interventions, practice and service development
