Job Description

Make a difference from day one!

Are you collaborative, caring and compassionate? Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day, then this is the place to be. Practice Plus Group are Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care. HMP Whatton is a Category C men's prison, located in the village of Whatton, near Bingham in Nottinghamshire. With an operational capacity of 800, HMP Whatton is based approximately 20 minutes of Grantham, 25 minutes of Newark, 30 minutes from Nottingham and Melton Mowbray, 45 minutes from Lincoln and 50 minutes of Derby by car. To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Whatton we’re looking for a Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) to support us.

Interested in clinical development?

We could give you the opportunity to develop in to a specialist role of your interest and benefit to the service i.e. CBT, ANP, BBV, sexual health, ILS (intermediate life support), health promotion, RCGP and long term condition courses.

In return for your hard work you will...

Receive an annual salary up to £38,000 - dependent on experience. You'll also get a number of benefits including a company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays, CPD, free mandatory training, online discounts and Blue Light Card eligibility. Other benefits include cycle to work scheme plus training and development opportunities. Onsite benefits at HMP Whatton include access to an onsite gym, free parking and subsidised café/restaurant.

Next steps

If you are shortlisted, you will be contacted by the Internal Recruiter for this role. The recruiter will submit your CV to the hiring manager and in turn we will arrange an interview for you to attend if the hiring manager feels that you are suitable for the job. For further information, please contact us on the details provided.

More information

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. At Practice Plus Group we actively promote diversity and equal opportunities and we are committed to this in both the running of our prison healthcare service and how we recruit our staff. We actively encourage applications from everyone with the essential requirements of the job, regardless of any protected characteristics. Please note that offers of employment are subject to Practice Plus Group Terms & Conditions and receipt of satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.

As a registered Learning Disabilities Nurse with current NMC registration, you'll collaboratively assess the needs of patients by planning, implementing and evaluating the care given and maintain records associated with this process. This may include the coordination of care of patients and liaising with other members of the multi-disciplinary team where necessary. You will provide outstanding evidence based care, listening and acting on patient feedback so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them. Focusing on both planned and unplanned care. Assisting in the assessment of Autistic Spectrum condition (utilising AQ50 and ADOS skills). Administer medication and psychological treatments with a knowledge of contraindications and side effects, and relating accurate information to patients in a format they are able to understand. You'll actively encourage patients to work towards ownership over their health and wellbeing and will forge strong links with our partners and stakeholders, providing a service that people can trust, feel safe within and feel proud of.
