Job Description

Main duties of the job

To assist the Ward Manager in providing leadership and operational management to the ward, ensuring the provision of quality nursing care to all service users

The post holder will assess, plan and implement care, and provide specialist nursing advice, and carry out nursing procedures

They will provide clinical and managerial leadership to junior staff, and provide supervision to junior staff and students

To support the Ward Manager in the implementation and sustainment of quality improvement projects on the ward

To act as a positive role model to the team, demonstrating the core values of Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust

To provide 24 hour senior nurse input to the unit and liaise with other agencies to support this duty

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To take on responsibilities of a ward nurse and deliver direct patient care

To provide clinical and line management supervision to staff and students

To be an effective member of the MDT

To work proactively to address any unit issues

To manage the rota and ensure that suitable staffing levels are maintained

To be involved in the development of the service and the work force

To support the implementation and sustaining of quality improvement projects on the ward

Person specification

Qulaifications
Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse in Mental Health
  • Holds current NMC registration


Desirable criteria
  • Mentor/supervision trained
  • conflict resolution skills
  • Experience in roster management
  • Experience in managing safe staffing
  • Quality Improvement awareness/training/experience

  • post preceptor experience within an equivalent setting
  • Experience in inpatient mental health
  • Experience in implementing change
  • Experience in engaging in safewards initiatives


Desirable criteria
  • Experience in managing staff
