Job Description

NSCG are working in partnership with a global Private Healthcare provider in the recruitment of the position of Senior Chemotherapy Nurse.

They are a private healthcare provider whose purpose is to create care experiences that get the best possible life outcomes for their patients. They believe care should be focused on the individual, not the condition and that care should be available when and where people need it most.

Across the world they have more than 440 centres, in the UK this includes 14 centres offering radiation therapy.

The Role

As the Senior Chemotherapy Nurse, you are responsible for delivering chemotherapy nursing services to patients within the unit and to deputise for the line manager where required.

Key areas for the role

*Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of treatment

*Ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing chemotherapy, assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families and other carers by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care.

*Work autonomously whilst providing clinical leadership, ensuring all patients have an accurate plan of care, which reflects the assessment undertaken and incorporates the issues and recommendations made ensuring clear documentation in the patient's records

*Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in intravenous access, the management of central venous catheters, venepuncture, and chemotherapy delivery, including the management of anaphylaxis and extravasation

Role Responsibilities

*Practice advanced life support to facilitate rapid stabilisation and the appropriate on-going management of patients who develop acute treatment complications

*Rotate into the 24-hour on call team to provide out of hours' support and triage to patients

*Assist in the development and audit of assessment tools that will ensure an appropriate level of nursing intervention so that patients who present with the most complex needs are referred to the appropriated specialist including patients and families who require more in-depth support and counselling

*Participate in the identification and development of clinical protocols and strategies to enhance both the continuity and standard of specialist care

*Work alongside radiographers and outpatient staff to ensure holistic care is maintained throughout the centre and rotate to support other departments where required

*Ensure all patients are fully informed of the risks and benefits of proposed procedures/ treatments, contributing to the process of securing informed consent

*Supervise and participate in the delivery of programmes of education and training per the identified needs of clients, carers and other involved in their care

*Work with junior staff to identify knowledge gaps in relation to chemotherapy patients and ensure staff are appropriately educated

*Lead on the specific areas of development of nursing practice within the team

*Participate in clinical audit within the chemotherapy service, raising the profile and enhancing the contribution of nursing to patient care and informing business and service development plans

*Initiate and lead on research projects within the department

*Utilise up to date research/evidence to deliver patient care and to disseminate this knowledge to all members of the multi-professional team

*Be aware of current research trials being conducted within own specialist area and to be able to inform patients about these

*Participate in the management of change to improve standards and communication links with all external providers

*Utilise and maintain information systems to aid audit and to provide regular activity analysis reports

*Maintain contemporaneous and accurate treatment records, submitting relevant statistics, reports and activity data as requested. Ensure that confidentiality of information is adhered to and NMC standards for 'record keeping' are met

*Participate in the evaluation of the service in terms of clinical effectiveness, clinical excellence and cost benefit

The Person

In order to be considered for this role you will;

*Be a NMC Registered Nurse

*UKONS SACT Passport or to be completed within three months of appointment

*Be fully trained and qualified in venepuncture and cannulations and have experience of working with different types of central venous access devices

*Be either working towards/or have the willingness to train towards having a recognised chemotherapy qualification

*UKONs trained and experience in oncology telephone triage. *Recognition and management of neutropenic sepsis

*Knowledge and understanding of clinical trials management

*Knowledge of infection control

This role is a 12 month FTC position working from the centre in Cambridge.
