Job Description

NSCG are working in partnership with a global Private Healthcare provider in the recruitment of the position of Lead Chemotherapy Nurse.

They are a private healthcare provider whose purpose is to create care experiences that get the best possible life outcomes for their patients. They believe care should be focused on the individual, not the condition and that care should be available when and where people need it most.

Across the world they have more than 440 centres, in the UK this includes 14 centres offering radiation therapy.

The Role

As the Lead Chemotherapy Nurse, you are responsible for providing specialist nursing leadership and effective management of resources whilst ensuring a high standard of nursing care is delivered to all patients accessing the service. You will also ensure appropriate support is given to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of disease trajectory.

Key areas for the role

*Ensure all patients have an accurate plan of care, reflecting the assessment undertaken and incorporating issues and recommendations

*Ensuring accurate and timely documentation

*Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in intravenous access, the management of central venous catheters, venesection, and chemotherapy delivery, including the management of anaphylaxis and extravasation

Role Responsibilities

Ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based, nursing care for patients undergoing chemotherapy, assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families and other carers by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care. This will include:

*Managing a patient caseload

*Close liaison with consultants and pharmacist

*Ordering diagnostic tests within agreed parameters

*Co-ordinating nurse led clinics

*Facilitate the professional development of staff within the Centre through effective communication and the sharing of best practice. *Ensure staff meet all their training requirements and competencies ensuring all training requirements are completed.

*Produce and review relevant operational policies and protocols in line with clinical governance policies and in line with health and safety legislation to ensure compliance with CQC standards.

*Participate in any service reviews or benchmarking activities to drive service development forward.

*Rotate into the 24-hour on call team to provide out of hours support and triage to patients

*Deliver immediate life support in order to facilitate rapid stabilisation and the appropriate ongoing management of patients who develop acute treatment complications

*Work in line with and contribute to local delivery of national care standards

*Comply with measures to actively manage and reduce risk to patients. *Ensuring the formal reporting and recording of adverse incidents

*Maintain contemporaneous and accurate treatment records, submitting relevant statistics, reports and activity data as requested. Ensure that confidentiality of information is adhered to and NMC standards for 'Record Keeping' are met

*Ensure all patients are fully informed of the risks and benefits of proposed procedures/ treatments, contributing to the process of securing informed consent

*Provide all patients with relevant and accessible up to date written information regarding their treatment

*Promote and facilitate evidence based, practice and clinical audit within the chemotherapy service

The Person

In order to be considered for this role you will have:

*NMC Level 1 or Level 15 Registered Nurse with a minimum 5 years' experience

*Experience of working in a private patient setting

*An advanced practitioner either through formal qualification (as above) and/or extensive clinical experience within oncology and chemotherapy administration

*Experience in clinical leadership

*Experience in budgetary management
