Introduction
This is part two of my blog in which I describe my journey back into the NHS as a temporary member of staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the first part, I described the way I had been approached by various people at the start of the pandemic to see whether I was interested in a return to my previous role and what needed to be done to accomplish this.
I left the reader at the point I could start my training to return and I will describe how that has been in this chapter of the blog.

Mental Health Nurse
In 2017 I gave up nursing after 15 years of working in various healthcare settings in Holland (where I did my training) and in the UK. A mini midlife crisis made me realise I wanted to do something else. I had always missed being able to explore my creative side in the nursing profession and decided to do a master’s in design. My aim is to combine the two disciplines and explore the areas where design and healthcare meet.

Hi.My experience with the temporary register has not been great. Back in April when I applied there was an email, followed by a couple of telephone calls and a request for paperwork to complete checks. I had duplicate calls and they found out this was because someone had duplicated my information which meant i was asked for the same documents again! I was informed it would be sorted and someone would be in touch. A couple of months later I got a cal asking about my previous experience and what area I would/could work in and I have heard nothing in over 6 months. I have attempted to go back through my emails to chase but nothing seems to give contact details for such a situation. Any ideas?

Hi, yes my experience is similar but slightly different as I never got as far as you. I had a flurry of phone calls back in about March / April. The lady I spoke to was confident that they would need me ASAP. Then I didn't hear anything. I suppose that is a good thing as although bad, things were not as bad as they thought they would get. I was all prepared to take a secondment from my current position, but nothing. Then we came out of lockdown so it became even more unlikely. As things worsen again, here I am willing and able but no one seems to need me!

Hi Tessa. Thank you for your reply. Glad to hear I’m not the only one left in limbo. As you say it’s a great thing they don’t ‘need’ us at the moment but it does leave me wondering how this whole thing is organised and coordinated. I’ve send them an email again today and asked if I at least could be paid for the training hours I’ve put into this.
