About Senior Care Assistant Jobs

Senior care assistant jobs seek applicants who hold a NVQ Level 3, or an equivalent qualification or who are in the process of obtaining this. Such applicants must also have training in a healthcare environment with indirect supervision.

A qualifying senior care assistant must also possess capabilities in clinical skills, phlebotomy experience, an ability to judge simple health issues, the use of medical equipment, a basic running knowledge of long term conditions and options for treatment and an understanding in accountability and delegation issues.

Excellent skills in communication are necessary in order to provide quality care to clients, as well as to effectively work as a team with other carers and health care providers.

Basic life support and HCA course training are added bonuses, but not necessary for applicants of senior care assistant jobs.

The Role of the Senior Care Assistant
Senior care assistants work under the indirect supervision of trained nurses in giving care to clients, as well as supporting and supervising other carers in their work.

There are many and various responsibilities of a senior care assistant. He or she must be able to work in a professional manner, respecting the rights and privacy of patients as well as carers, not overstepping authority and tactfully diffusing problematic situations with skills that will bring about client satisfaction and peaceful results.

Some of the daily duties involved in senior care assistant jobs are—

  • Record keeping of routine tasks of patience, such as basic vital signs, temperature, weight and height
  • Monitoring and supporting patients undergoing testing
  • Setting up various medical equipment
  • Assisting professionals while patients undergo minor surgeries
  • Providing patients with accurate information
  • Simple dressing and aseptic application
